The aim of this class is to examine what embodied spirituality is, exploring how bodily experience (yes, even the pains and problems associated with the body) can be a legitimate and valid partner to spirituality.
I taught this as a two-part class in July for a Jungian, IFS therapy, Shamanism (in synthesis) 5-Day Intensive with C. Michael Smith, PhD and my IFS friend and colleague, Aion Farvahar.
It was so well received I wanted to offer this again to my local community in West Michigan.
Therapists, healers, those interested in IFS, Jungian Psychology, and indigenous perspectives on healing...all welcome.
We will be:
exploring the depth psychological perspective on the split between the mind/body
Even as we collectively might favor the head with its ideas and ideals, many find ourselves mired in issues and hang-ups around the material world like physical symptoms, addictive habits, love fixations, materialism, unconscious sexuality, etc...We'll examine insights from Jungian analyst, Marion Woodman, and Archetypal psychologist, James Hillman
examining the IFS therapy model and the intersection of spiritual bypassing and somatic bypassing
Spiritual bypassing is the use of spiritual practices and beliefs to avoid dealing with out painful feelings, unresolved wounds, and developmental needs, which we'll take a closer look at from an IFS perspective. Similarly, our examination somatic bypassing will challenge the use of spirituality to avoid symptoms of soul via the physical body. Case study included
exploring care for the body as spiritual practice and the metabolic implications of invoking The Sacred
The body can often be viewed as a nuisance or annoyance, something that gets in the way of the "real," heady work of self-development and spirituality. We'll look at devotional body care practices that bring us more fully into Life. We'll also Sacred Metabolism, a meta-chemistry ignited in the body in the presence of the Sacred. Several examples included
